The Schedule for Pool training can be seen here

2009 members will have the choice to train on Monday or Tuesday evening but not both!

A Request…

In our 25th year we have much to celebrate, one thing that we don’t have however, is a club house, there have been a few ideas over the years but nothing has come to fruition! We would like to ask any members of the club who are architects, designers, builders or planners to come forward with any ideas that they have about a clubhouse somewhere in Caswell!. By all means email us or approach one of the committee on the beach!

Bay 2 Bay Swim Postponement

After careful consideration, Mumbles Lifeguards Club regret to announce the postponement of the Bay To Bay Swim. The organisers have announced that the event will now take place on Friday June 17th 2022.

The event was originally due to take place in June 2020 and was postponed due to the COVID19 pandemic, in line with guidance from Welsh Government and Public Health Wales. It was hoped that we could run the event this year, but after discussion, it was felt that arranging the swim for next year, with the majority of people having been vaccinated against COVID19, would make the likelihood of the event taking place successfully much higher.

Options for participants:

Your place for next year’s event is already secured and you do not need to do anything.
If you are unable to participate next year, you will be able to transfer your place to another person at no additional cost. Details on how to do this will be published early in 2022.

Mumbles Lifeguard Club would like to thank all event partners for their continued support during these challenging times.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to all of those that continue to work tirelessly during this pandemic to keep us safe. Many people will have been affected by the pandemic, and our thoughts and condolences are extended to all those who have been affected by coronavirus.

Return to the Beach 2021

Thank you for all you did last time we came back to training. Mumbles were safe, observant and stuck to the rules. Let's keep up the good work and we look forward to seeing you back on the beach soon!

Preparing for training and qualifications in 2021

Hi all MLC members.

With the possibility of Covid restrictions being eased over the next couple of months. our thoughts move to the possibility of restarting beach training in the not too distant future (hopefully).

With this in mind we are aware that there are a large number of you who will be looking to renew qualifications that have expired and those of you who are now eligible to take some of the junior and senior awards.

Awards training will take priority when we resume training and to this end I would encourage you to refresh your technical knowledge by going through the e-learning manuals on the SLSA Wales web site.

The main qualifications for junior members are the Level 1 BL qualification for those 12+years; Level 2 for 15+ years and NVBLQ for 16+ year old's.

The syllabus for these awards can be found in the Awards Manual in the Technical section of the downloads of the Members Area. Also in the downloads are the various Quizdom questions for the different level of awards. All of the information and knowledge required for these exams can be found in the e-learning section of the web site with manuals for nippers, juniors and NVBLQ.

I would strongly advise you to refresh your knowledge from these various sections prior to the return of beach training as this will speed up the process of training you to a level at which you are competent to undertake the various exams.

Please don't turn up to beach training after such a long time and expect to be ready to sit exams in a couple of weeks if you haven't refreshed your knowledge and swim fitness. This will take a lot of hard work from coaches and candidates to get you ready to sit exams.

To all coaches/prospective coaches, there is also a Coaching Handbook in the members area/downloads section of the SLSA Wales website and the details above regarding refreshing your knowledge and technical skills is also applicable.

COVID-19 Training Update

Dear Members

We know that it has been a difficult time for all during the COVID-19 pandemic and this has been true for lifeguard training across Wales. We have taken a cautious approach to resuming training as we are first and foremost a lifeguarding club and we could be potentially endangering members and relatives if we rushed back to training. We also need to closely follow the guidance as set out by the Surf Lifeguard Association Wales (SLSAW) who are our governing body.

What do you need to know?

The approval to resume training has now been given by SLSAW but under some very stringent protocols.

  1. All people intending to train, or assist have to be members of the club.
  2. All people intending to train have to sign up, and be aware of all COVID protocols (Social distancing, cleaning protocols etc).
  3. All people intending to train have to sign a document stating that they understand 3) above.
  4. There can be no more than 30 people training on the beach at any time, this includes coaches and helpers.
  5. If the beach at Caswell is a) Busy and b) Has a high tide we WILL cancel training as it will be impossible to maintain an adequate social distance.
  6. There will be hand washing facilities at the hut, and social distancing markers. Their use will be mandatory.
  7. Parents must also maintain adequate social distancing and remain on the beach/car park as training will be shortened
  8. Members should arrive on time, dressed in wetsuits, and leave the hut area without getting changed. No changing on the beach.
  9. The new Swansea council car park app should be used before you arrive at the beach. You can pre-pay before you park and this will prevent queues Carpark

In respect of 4) above this means that there can be only 21 nippers on the beach and 9 coaches/helpers MAXIMUM. This will clearly impact our usual training regimen. We also can't do any competitive type training (flags) and will have to make cautious use of equipment Skis/Boards between sessions. Indeed we may not be able to use equipment due to the deep cleaning that will have to take place.

What do you need to do?

  1. Make your self familiar with the COVID Documentation
  2. All members: Nippers, Juniors, Seniors, Coaches and helpers must sign the Club COVID Checklist. You will NOT be allowed to register for training without this and a paid membership
  3. If you intend to train you will have to complete the Training Registration form by 5PM 2 days before training. So for Sunday this will be on Friday at 5, for Wednesday, Monday at 5. This will have to be completed EVERY time and will initially be treated on a first come first served basis. We will review this as time passes. If you have multiple children please register them all AND yourself we may have to mix age groups to maintain a 'bubble'.

We are sorry that it has taken us this long to get to this stage and we want to thank you for bearing with us.

Once we have all the registration completed checklist forms we will email out the Training Registration form to those members that have completed it with the first planned training date.

Please also pass this message on to anyone who does not recieve club email or Whats App messages. Also ask them to get in touch with us to be added to the relevant list.

Regards

First Aid and Resus training

Dear All

I am proposing to restart 1st aid and resus training on Friday evenings before ski training at Caswell. I will be starting at 5:45pm this Friday 18th May so that those wanting to do ski training at 6:30pm can do so . This also gives us the opportunity to utilise Friday evenings if conditions are unsuitable for ski training.

Nipper Summer Training

Dear Nippers and Nipper Parents

Summer training will soon be starting.

The first 3 sessions will be held at Swansea Uplands Rugby Club on

26/04/18 - Please note this is a Thursday for this week only

02/05/18

09/05/18

Registration will begin at 18:15 and will close at 18:30 for the start of the session.

Dry training and beach training will consist of 6 stations - each station concentrating on a specific discipline and the nippers will be rotated through each one.

Nippers will not cover all disciplines at each session, but the rota will continue into the next session so that the system is fair to all.

Tides and adverse weather conditions may affect training and we will try and give adequate notice if training is cancelled or the venue has to be changed by WhatsApp ONLY so please ensure you have been added to the group.

This system will allow the nippers to develop their skills on the beach and in the sea, with provision of appropriate water cover and qualified helpers. We will have to rely on parents to accompany the nippers from one station to another, which will allow parents/helpers who would rather not get wet to get involved!

Just to reiterate the band system at registration - Registration will open at 18:15 and will close at 18:30 at the start of the session. Once registration has closed nippers will unfortunately not be allowed to train as the coaches will already have been allocated in the correct ratio from the numbers signed in. It will be the responsibility of the parent/responsible adult to return the bands after training - this is for ALL nipper age groups.

All parent/helpers/coaches over the age of 16 require a DBS check to safeguard our nippers, and is a requirement for all clubs from SLSA Wales.

Please find attached the necessary forms to be completed and I will collect and check the necessary documentation after the AGM and during the Wednesday sessions at the Rugby Club from 02/05/18. You will require your passport, drivers licence, current utility bill/ bank statement/ birth certificate. Unfortunately, we do have to charge £15 for this service which includes the DBS check and affiliated membership for MLC.

We appreciate that this is a big change from our previous training but we have to ensure that the nippers are safe and keep line with SLSA rules

DBS1, DBS2, DBS3

Look forward to a great summer.

Apologies for the length of the email!

Best wishes

Upcoming events and important changes

Dear Members

A few important messages before we start the new season on the beach, and while we still have a little bit of winter training left. Please do have a read of this email as there are some important dates to take note of and some changes for you to be aware of:

1)    Due to some issues with behavior during training sessions we are having to take some steps to address this on both the beach and at the pool, we want to emphasise the point of this is ultimately for the safety of your children.

2)    In the pool

  • If you are not with your group by the time that warm up is complete you will NOT be allowed to swim (10 minutes after the scheduled start).
  • Coaches will issue 2 warnings about behavior to the children, if there had to be a third they will be asked to leave the pool immediately.
  • Each child must have a responsible adult with them who remains poolside side AT ALL TIMES
  • Can you please ensure that everyone who attends pool training has both fins and goggles - This applies to ALL age groups.

3)    At the Beach:

  • All nippers/juniors must REGISTER before training and sign out at the end. Each nipper will be issued with a wrist band.
  • For nippers a responsible adult will MUST return the registration band beach side. It will not be accepted from the nipper.
  • Each child must have a responsible adult with them who remains at the beach AT ALL TIMES
  • Beach equipment: wetsuit, goggles, rash vest and MLC swim hat and trainers.
  • If you are not on the beach by the time warm up ends you will NOT be allowed to train.
  • For juniors ensure that you sign out.
  • There will be a sign out log for Skis and Paddles starting this summer

4)    The club AGM will be on the 29th April at 17:00 in Uplands Rugby Club

•     Please do try and attend. The club needs your input. It matters

5)    We are having to freeze recruitment of Nippers to 10 per age group as we need more coaches who can commit to being in the sea AND on poolside on a regular basis. Training will be given, and you won’t just suddenly be given a load of responsibility. Please step forward - Your club needs you!

6)    There will be an Easter egg hunt on the 1st of April for the nippers at 11AM by the slipway as Caswell, please come along.

7)    Winter Training:

  • For Juniors ONLY, winter pool training has been extended until the 6th of May.
  • For Nippers, the pool is now finished, we will now work towards awards therefore there will be dry training sessions instead at Swansea Uplands Rugby Club. Further information will be sent shortly.

8)    We will be back in the sea on 20th of May for all age groups

9)    All parent helpers have to be DBS checked. SLSA want risk assessments of Lifeguard training and we will be assessed this means that if there are not enough qualified helpers on the beach, children will not be able to swim on the beach.

Apologies for this information blitz but there are some important issues to notify you about. Please do come along to the AGM to discuss these points and other issues about the club on the 29th of April

TL:DR;

AGM:  29th April at 17:00 in Uplands Rugby Club – Please Attend

Back in the sea: 20th of May

The code of conduct will be enforced

Regards

MLC Committee

NOTIFICATION OF AGM

Welsh Nipper Stillwater competition

Dear Nipper Competitors

Thank you for all your efforts these last few weeks.
The competition is in sight and I hope you all enjoy yourselves on Sunday.
We have a great representation across all age groups.

Please meet at The National Pool on Sunday at 7.15 - 7.30am.
If we could congregate in the seating area closest to the 25m pool -that would be great.
We'll spread ourselves around until we all get there!!!

I will have hats with me.
Don't forget your fins, goggles, food, drinks and something to do - as there is likely to be a lot of waiting around.
We will be looking for parents to look after boys and girls in their age groups and parent helpers to help on poolside. This can be rotated between a group of parents to make it easier and share the load.

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

Go Mumbles!!!!
