Winter Training

Dear All

Many thanks to all of you that responded to the Doodle poll, we have counted up the responses and concluded the following:

There was quite an even split amongst the nippers for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Juniors overwhelmingly responded with wanting to keep their training on a Tuesday. This means that the training times will remain as they are, at the moment for both groups.

We are in constant communication with the pools and if any additional pool time becomes available we will inform you of this.

We appreciate that this is disappointing for some people, but it is very difficult to accommodate everyone.

Hi all,

Llantwit Major Nipper Carnival will be held at Barry Island beach on Saturday 25th June 2016 from. 1st Event 09:00).

Please park in the public car parks – either the ‘old butlins site’ which is on the left as you approach the far end of the prom (not the Gavin & Stacey end!), or if this is full, the car park on the left as you enter Barry Island (from Llantwit direction), both are pay & display.  I have requested that the ‘old butlins’ car park will be open from 07:30am.

Officials and place judges will be needed!

Helpers in the sea would also be much appreciated

Coach First Aid Training

All

I will not be available to hold the 1st aid/resuscitation training this Thursday as I am away in London.

Due to the poor response to the first session last week, I would appreciate it if you could email me (nmmanagementservices@ntlworld.com) to let me know who is interested in attending this training (scheduled next for Thursday 9th June @ 6.30pm at Cawell). If there is little interest at present I will re-schedule this training for later in the summer for those interested.

This training is for anyone wanting to take the beach lifeguard or coaches exam this summer or for any helpers/coaches/nipper parents who wish to gain some knowledge or refresh their existing training on 1st aid/resuscitation techniques.

Regards,

Nigel Mason.

Nipper Training Cancelled

Dear Nippers

There has been a slight problem with the issue of proof of insurance. Hopefully this will be resolved within the next few days.
As a result, there will be no nipper training tomorrow evening. Please keep a eye via social media and via emails for updates and future training sesiions.

Many thanks

Nipper Carnival Cancelled

All

Unfortunately due to a problem with SLSA Wales public liability insurance we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel our Nipper Carnival this coming Sunday.

In order for us to hold the event we must supply copies of risk assessments, proof of public liability insurance and other such documentation along with a fee for the usage of the beach to Swansea City Council.

Whilst SLSA Wales are taking steps to resolve this we have timescales to meet on serving documentation to the Council.  With the absence of insurance at this time and being minded that we also have to give as much notice as possible to clubs attending we feel we have no other choice but to make this call.

Sincere apologies

Peter Evans

MLC Chairman

Its called Slack and here is how to get on it

1) Email mumbleslifeguardclub@gmail.com and ask for an invite, stating who you are and what your interest is - IE Senior, Junior or Nipper Parent

We will then email you a link back inviting you to Slack that will look something like this:

2) So sign into your email and then Click the 'Join team' Link

4) Lastly choose a password to go with this and choose 'Join Team', after a short tutorial you will then be in the Web View of Slack! Well done you are almost finished. Now you need to install the App on your phone/tablet or computer (or all 3 if you want)

5)  Visit your store

Beach Lifeguard/Coaching Awards First Aid Training

Folks,

It is my intention to start regular 1st Aid and Resus training on Thursday evenings at Caswell Bay starting this Thursday 26th May at 06:30pm.

This is open to anyone taking Beach Lifeguard or Coaching awards some time this summer.

It is also open to any Nipper trainer/helper who wishes to learn about this aspect of the training or who wish to have a refresher/update on any similar training they may have had outside of lifeguards.

All current Trainers/assessors who wish to help with this training will be welcomed, as there are likely to be fairly high numbers and I would like put the attendees into small groups with an individual trainer to maximise the intensity of training we are able to give.

The sessions will last between 60 to 90 mins, during which time we should be able to pass on vital knowledge/training if we can split into small groups of 4 to 6 people.

You will not be going in the water so wetsuits/swimming kit is not required.

If you have never done any 1st Aid/resus training before it is invaluable training for everyday incidents not just lifeguard training sessions, so please give it a go.

You never know when you may need to put the training into action.

Regards,

Nigel Mason.

Juniors, Seniors and Masters

Hi Everyone,

We have started the mid week sessions. What we do for training is weather and tide dependant.

So, pack

- Water gear (wetsuit, club coloured rash vest, goggles and swim hat)

- Dry gear (trainers and what you want to run in!)

- Water bottle

Can we ask for safety reason that people turn up 15minutes before the start time of the training sessions! So, We can count numbers, organise equipment and start ON TIME! Rash vest must be worn, otherwise no training!!!

NO RASH VEST - NO TRAIN!

Back on the Beach

Dear Nippers

Beach Training starts again next Sunday, 15th May , 9.30am at Caswell.

Please ensure that you all register on the slip before training, and to sign out when training has finished. Nippers can't train without signing in.

Next Sunday will be a beach training session - looking at fitness, signals, beach safety and craft care. For future sessions, you will all need a well fitting wetsuit to keep you warm.
MLC rash vests have to be worn at the beach - and these will be available to buy on Sunday. No vest, no training. If you have any wetsuits that you have grown out of - we hope to have a bring and buy - so please bring any kit along that no longer fits you.

We will need parent helpers on the beach and in the sea. So please pitch in, any help at all is appreciated, everyone has to wait for the kids to come out of the water anyway!  Please help us to supervise your children, as their safety is paramount. You don't have to get wet !!

Without sufficient cover we will be unable to take the children into the sea.

The BBQ needs willing volunteers to run it - even if it's the Wednesday night only - so if you can turn a sausage or flip a burger please let us know.

Look forward to seeing you all on the beach.

Best wishes

MLC coaches.
